The Jamaican Culture speaks through Bonita Jamaica

BonitaJamaica.com describes itself as a movement that positively promotes Jamaica in the global community. Bonita also means pretty in Spanish but what Bonita Jamaica conveys is a website deeply rooted in the Jamaican culture.

There are no fancy features or bells and whistles. This is definitely not an out of the box website built to simply capture the search engine spiders.

The website layout is simple with the navigation links on the left but the content is very engaging. For starters if you are just discovering the Jamaican culture, the site has resource information about Jamaica similar to a wikipedia type site. But what I found quite attractive was the picture gallery including over 100 Flickr groups. How better to show potential visitors the unique nature of the Jamaican culture than the images of Jamaica. My personal favourites are the following groups

However, there are 97 more groups to check and I guarantee that you will find images of Jamaica that you like. I would recommend adding this site to your bookmarks. BonitaJamaica.com speaks Jamaican in a beautiful way.

BlackJack.com showcasing the Jamaican Experience

BlackJack.com maybe slightly outside of what I usually cover on BigCulture.com but I was drawn to this website because of its focus on the black experience.

Jamaica Netball Association Relaunched Website

I may have missed this relaunched date for the new and improve Jamaica Netball Association Website but I recently stumbled on the new look and I am impressed. There is no second guessing as to where you are and the front page of the website offers a vibrant and sporty feel. This is captured in the use of images that provides the central focus to the web site look and feel.

Netball is a popular sport in Jamaica and the country ranks consistently in the top five countries across the globe. Like any other successful sports association, players and people behind the scene is highlighted across the website.

The Jamaica National Netball association website encourages visitor engagement through a discussion board, blogs section and a find a player feature. While the discussion board seems to be in its infancy, the site managers should ensure that a person is dedicated to manage the forum. This can also be said about its blog, it is critical that content remains fresh and relevant.

This is obviously a step in the right direction and I am looking forward to the addition of Web 2.0 functionalities (Twitter, Facebook etc) that will help to expand this website audience.

Jamaican Travel Website Travel2Negril.com

Negril once a sleepy town in Jamaica is today one of the most popular destinations for tourist visiting the island. For the average tourist most of the information on Negril is found in hotel brochures and airline packages. Then came Travel2Negril.com which provides a resource information on hotels, attractions. transportation, events and general information on Negril.

With a nice crisp layout, the site use of images and videos conveys the experience for the potential visitor to Negril. Content is well laid out and ease of navigation adds to the user friendliness of this website. I particularly like the events page which offers a quick highlight of what the potential visitor can enjoy. The online forum provides a discussion board for a wide range of topics covering Negril.

The one drawing card for me with regard to this website is its simplicity. These days many websites comes with all the bells and whistle of web 2.0 but for me Travel2Negril.com covers the content that matters most to visitors to the popular resort town of Negril. While the information is geared heavily towards tourist, I see the value of the information provided to locals. This is a website worth having in your list of bookmarks.
